Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has praised the talent and determination of a 23-year-old Lagos-based creative, Irinsanmi Imisioluwa Eunice, after receiving a custom handmade crocheted jacket from her.
Governor Sanwo-Olu shared the gesture in a post on his official social media page, describing the gift as both impressive and symbolic of the vibrant creative energy driving young people in Lagos. The jacket, which took 168 hours, over 20,000 stitches, and six different colours of yarn to complete, was made using a single crochet hook.
“What touched me most is her story,” the Governor noted. Eunice, who learned to crochet during her primary school days, originally aspired to become a doctor. However, life led her down a different path. She studied Home Economics and fully embraced her passion for crafting during the COVID-19 lockdown period.
The Governor used the opportunity to encourage young creatives across Lagos. “Your work matters. Your hands, your skills, your ideas, and your dreams are all part of what makes this state thrive,” he said, adding that he would wear the gift with pride.
