Deadline for submissions: 3 August 2025
In celebration of International Youth Day 2025, UN Women has announced the YOUth SDG 5 Photography Challenge, calling on young changemakers from around the world to visually showcase their work in advancing gender equality at the local level.
Themed “Local Youth Action for the SDGs and Beyond”, the challenge is part of this year’s campaign to spotlight grassroots leadership on Sustainable Development Goal 5 – Gender Equality. The initiative invites youth aged 30 and under to submit a powerful photograph accompanied by a brief narrative (up to 300 words) that captures their local efforts to promote gender justice.
From combating gender-based violence and promoting care equity, to advancing girls’ leadership and fostering environmental or peacebuilding initiatives, the challenge provides a global platform for youth to tell their stories and inspire change.
Submissions opened on 25 July 2025 and will close on 3 August 2025 at 11:59 PM EDT. Selected entries will be showcased during a live virtual event on 12 August 2025, while others may be featured in the UN Women YOUth newsletter and future campaigns.
The submissions will be reviewed by a panel consisting of members from UN Women and the Beijing+30 Youth Steering Committee.
Interested applicants can find full details and submit their entries via this Google Form link.
