Lagos, Nigeria – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially commissioned the first phase of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, marking a significant milestone in Nigeria’s infrastructure and economic development efforts.

The inauguration ceremony, held in Lagos on Sunday, June 1, 2025, was attended by dignitaries, stakeholders, and top government officials, including Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who praised the project as a transformative stride for Nigeria’s coastal regions.

“This road is a major step forward for Nigeria. It connects communities, opens up jobs, boosts trade, and brings real development to our coastal states,” Governor Sanwo-Olu stated. “As Governor and a proud Lagosian, I’m especially honored that this historic journey begins here in our state. We’re ready to make the most of it.”

Governor Sanwo-Olu extended heartfelt congratulations to President Tinubu for what he described as “pushing forward with this vision,” adding, “It’s a big step, and we’re proud to see it take shape.”

The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, when completed, will stretch along Nigeria’s southern coastline, linking key commercial cities, ports, and rural communities. The first phase commissioned covers the Lagos segment, with construction ongoing in other sections.

The highway is expected to significantly enhance transportation efficiency, promote tourism, and serve as a catalyst for inclusive development across the South-West and South-South regions.
