Mombasa, Kenya – Amos Nzioki, a pharmacist, has been charged before the Mombasa Chief Magistrate, Hon. Martha Mutuku, for conducting an induced abortion on a 15-year-old girl who had conceived through defilement. The offense was allegedly committed on June 3, 2023, at Nzioki’s private chemist located in Tudor.

According to the prosecution, Amos Nzioki is accused of administering a combination of drugs to the minor, resulting in the termination of her pregnancy. The girl’s guardian promptly reported the incident to the police, who subsequently took her to Coast General Hospital. Medical examinations conducted by doctors at the hospital confirmed the occurrence of the abortion.

It is worth noting that the incident took place while the police are actively pursuing a separate investigation involving the man accused of defiling and impregnating the minor. The authorities are committed to apprehending the alleged perpetrator and ensuring that justice is served in that regard.

During the court hearing, Amos Nzioki pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him. The Mombasa Chief Magistrate granted him temporary release on a Ksh 300,000 bond, which requires one surety of the same amount. Alternatively, Nzioki has the option of providing a cash bail of Ksh 200,000. These legal measures have been imposed to ensure his appearance in court for subsequent proceedings.

On June 6, 2023, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions Kenya confirmed these developments via their official Twitter page.

This case highlights the importance of protecting minors and handling such delicate matters with utmost care and adherence to the law. The Mombasa Chief Magistrate’s court will continue to oversee the legal process, ensuring a fair trial and seeking justice for the affected minor.
