Owerri, Imo State – The 2025 Children’s Day celebration in Imo State was marked with joy and vibrant festivities as Her Excellency, Barr. Dr. Mrs. Chioma Uzodimma, the First Lady of Imo State, hosted over 400 children from schools and orphanages at the Government House, Owerri, on Tuesday, May 27, 2025.
Organized by the office of the First Lady in collaboration with other key partners, including the Imo State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare, the celebration featured the theme “Building a Bullying-Free Generation,” focusing on promoting kindness, respect, and confidence among children.
In her address, the First Lady, visibly thrilled by the children’s excitement, encouraged them to embrace their individuality and creativity. “Refuse to be bullied,” she urged, “but always show respect to your parents, elders, and teachers. You are surrounded by people who love you. Celebrate with joy and excitement because you are superstars.”
Children participated in a variety of activities, including games, spelling bees, music, and dancing with mascots. The event also featured multiple bouncing castles and a rich array of food and treats. A major highlight was the joyful circle dance with the First Lady herself, who later presented performance prizes and gift bags to the young participants.
In her welcome remarks, Lady Nkechinyere Ugwu, Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, expressed delight at the turnout and festive atmosphere. She encouraged the children to enjoy the day planned just for them and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring the well-being and protection of every child in Imo State.
The 2025 Children’s Day celebration served as a powerful reminder of the importance of nurturing a safe, joyful, and supportive environment for all children to grow, thrive, and reach their full potential.
