In a press release signed by House Spokesman Rep. Akin Rotimi Jr., on June 18, 2025, the Committee expressed deep concern over the companies’ disregard for multiple invitations and public notices, stating that it may be forced to impose constitutional sanctions on the non-compliant firms.

“These companies have persistently ignored our calls. Recalcitrant companies will face the constitutional consequences of their refusal to cooperate,” said Committee Chairman Rep. Bamidele Salam.

Companies listed for non-compliance include:

  • Neconde Energy Ltd. – $325.7m
  • Continental Oil & Gas Ltd. – $57m
  • Heirs Holdings – $137.7m
  • Energia Ltd. – $19.5m

The Committee has directed these companies to appear before it between July 2 and July 3, 2025.

Additionally, six more companies with alleged outstanding liabilities amounting to $125.5 million have been asked to reappear, including Shoreline ($70m), OML 18 ($15.2m), and Newcross Exploration ($25m).

Meanwhile, the Committee reported fresh recoveries of $15.7 million (approximately ₦25 billion), pushing total recoveries to ₦86.5 billion. The funds, recovered from companies such as TotalEnergies, Shoreline Natural Resources, and Enageed Resource Ltd., have been remitted to the Federation Account.

The investigation stems from the Auditor-General’s report on the 2021 Consolidated Financial Statements and has so far revealed that oil and gas firms owe the Federation roughly ₦9.4 trillion as of Q4 2024 in unpaid royalties, gas flare penalties, and other contractual obligations.

The House reaffirmed its commitment to fiscal accountability, saying it would not relent in protecting public resources and enforcing compliance in Nigeria’s extractive industries.

Zenith Bank Suspends Dividends, Bonuses, and Foreign Investments to Comply with CBN Regulations

0

Lagos, Nigeria – June 17, 2025
Zenith Bank Plc has announced a temporary suspension of dividend payments, bonuses, and investments in foreign subsidiaries, citing efforts to align with regulatory requirements set by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

The move follows the CBN’s recent circular (Ref: BSD/DIR/CON/LAB/018/008), which grants regulatory forbearance on Single Obligor Limit (SOL) and certain credit facilities. In a statement issued Tuesday and signed by Company Secretary Michael O. Otu, the bank clarified the nature of its exposure and progress on compliance.

“The Bank has successfully raised and surpassed the new regulatory capital requirement of ₦500 Billion,” the letter reads. “The Bank’s exposure under the SOL forbearance relates solely to a single obligor. We are confident that this exposure will be brought within the applicable regulatory limit on or before 30 June 2025.”

On other credit facilities, the bank noted that only two customers are affected. “We have made substantial provisions in respect of these facilities and have taken appropriate comprehensive steps to ensure full provisioning by 30 June 2025,” the statement added.

Zenith Bank further assured stakeholders that it expects to exit all forbearance arrangements with the CBN by the end of the first half of 2025.

“Accordingly, we remain confident that the Bank will satisfy all relevant conditions to enable it to pay dividend to shareholders in the current year,” the letter concluded.

This development underscores the bank’s proactive stance in maintaining regulatory compliance while safeguarding shareholder interests.

Benue is Bleeding: Verydarkblackman Sparks Urgent National Attention After On-Ground Report of Massacre

0

Nigerian social media personality and activist, Vincent Innocent, popularly known as Verydarkblackman, has once again drawn national attention to the worsening security crisis in Benue State with a series of emotionally charged online posts and videos.

In a disturbing update posted on 15 June 2025, Verydarkblackman reported live from Yelwata, a community in Benue State, where he claimed that over 200 people were killed in a single day. The video, which included graphic content, was accompanied by a strong message directed at President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“Dear President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is this what you promised Nigeria during the campaign? Look at this video—how long will this continue? Benue is bleeding. When does this stop?”

The report has not yet been independently verified, but it adds to a growing number of citizen-led documentation of violence in Nigeria’s Middle Belt region, where attacks on farming communities have surged in recent years.

Earlier in the week, Verydarkblackman had posted another video in response to renewed protests by Benue youths. He urged them to prepare for self-defense, calling for licensed arms, community mobilization, and strategic collaboration with security forces.

“The army and police cannot do it alone… You must prepare yourselves. Every household in Benue should be ready to defend that land… We are the wiser generation. We must not fold our arms and die in silence.”

While his message has resonated with many who feel abandoned, others have raised concerns about the legal and ethical implications of civilians arming themselves, warning that such calls—though born of desperation—could escalate violence further.

Benue State has remained one of the epicenters of herder-farmer conflicts, communal clashes, and banditry, with thousands displaced and hundreds killed in the past year alone. The state government has repeatedly called on the federal authorities for increased military presence and sustained humanitarian support.

In response to the growing crisis, Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oloyede, the Chief of Army Staff, recently relocated military operations to Benue to bolster efforts in curbing the violence. However, community leaders and rights activists continue to demand long-term solutions, including land reform, justice for victims, and better protection of rural communities.

As the national conversation intensifies, Verydarkblackman’s bold presence in the heart of the conflict zone is being seen by many as both a cry for help and a wake-up call to a nation grappling with repeated failures in securing its most vulnerable populations.

Nigeria Launches National Partnership to Eliminate Cervical Cancer

Abuja, Nigeria – On June 3, 2025, the Federal Government of Nigeria officially launched the Partnership to Eliminate Cervical Cancer in Nigeria (PECCiN)—a strategic national initiative aimed at tackling one of the most preventable yet deadly diseases affecting women in the country.

The high-level launch event, held at the State House in Abuja, brought together key stakeholders, including First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, Honourable Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, Chairman of the National Task Force on Cervical Cancer Elimination Professor Isaac Adewole, and Dr. Walter Mulombo, outgoing WHO Nigeria Resident Coordinator. Also in attendance were national leaders, development partners, and Mrs. Toyin Saraki, Founder and President of The Wellbeing Foundation Africa.

In her remarks, Mrs. Saraki highlighted the urgent need for action, noting that cervical cancer claims the lives of approximately 8,000 Nigerian women each year, despite being largely preventable and treatable.

“By embedding HPV vaccination access and advocacy with cervical screening education into our frontline care, we are ensuring that no woman is left uninformed or unserved,” she said.

The PECCiN initiative aligns with the World Health Organization’s 90–70–90 global strategy, which targets 90% HPV vaccination coverage, 70% cervical screening coverage, and 90% treatment access by 2030. The goal is to eliminate cervical cancer as a public health concern.

Mrs. Saraki, a Global Champion for Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, and Adolescent Health (RMNCAH), welcomed the launch as a “timely, unified opportunity for collaboration to deliver transformation at national scale.”

The launch of PECCiN marks a significant step forward in Nigeria’s public health response, reaffirming the country’s commitment to women’s health, health equity, and collaborative action against preventable diseases.
